TAF is exploring policy solutions to save energy and reduce carbon emissions.
Toronto Atmospheric Fund (TAF) creates innovative urban climate change solutions. Decarbonizing our cities will require new policy solutions at all levels of government. While focused on the City of Toronto, TAF is working with stakeholders across Canada to identify, implement, and replicate policies and programs with the potential to dramatically reduce urban emissions. With approximately half of urban greenhouse gas emissions resulting from energy consumption in buildings, energy efficiency is a primary focus area. TAF’s Building Value initiative aims to accelerate energy efficiency retrofits of large buildings in cities across Canada, leveraging effective policy and finance tools.
TAF has an exciting opportunity to work on practical low-carbon solutions.
TAF is seeking a highly organized, policy-savvy individual to coordinate TAF’s policy research and engagement activities, including the new Building Value initiative. The role will include helping to identify and advance several high-priority policy and financial research projects that have game-changing potential in the field of energy efficiency; engaging and liaising with partners across the country including government, corporate, real-estate and non-profit organizations; and supporting communications and reporting to project stakeholders. This position is supervised by TAF’s Director of Policy & Programs. Occasional travel may be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Policy research and analysis. Research and assess key low carbon policy opportunities at the municipal, provincial and federal levels. Topics will include energy reporting and benchmarking, property-assessed financing, incentive programs, and carbon pricing.
Document the multiple benefits of low carbon policies. Working with TAF staff and external service providers, coordinate the assessment and communication of potential benefits of key policy options, including GHG reductions, economic benefits, and other societal benefits.
Stakeholder engagement. Liaise with key stakeholders Canada-wide, including development and support of advisory committees as needed, support of outreach events such as webinars, workshops and conference presentations, and identifying synergies among stakeholders and leveraging others’ assets and skill sets.
Project management. Co-ordination of policy research and engagement projects undertaken by TAF and its partners including contract and budget management, procurement, scheduling, meeting minutes, development of project timelines and milestones, reporting and donor stewardship reports.
Project evaluation. Create and implement a developmental evaluation protocol for the project (training provided) and ensure project milestones are tracked, provide interim and final reporting on project results and lessons learned and leverage these lessons for project course corrections where needed.

ABOUT TAF
Toronto Atmospheric Fund invests in urban solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. We achieve our mission by:
listening to local communities and offering support through our community grants program;
collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders to realize common goals, understanding that clean air and greenhouse gas reductions benefit our health, our economy and the sustainability of our city; and
financing entrepreneurs whose product or service can significantly cut emissions in Toronto, and developers and property owners who are making their buildings more energy efficient.
Our ultimate goal – reducing Toronto’s GHG emissions by 80% by 2050 – informs all our actions. This target isn’t simply another milestone. It’s our vision for a climate-smart city that functions within its environmental means and is a leader among climate-friendly urban centres around the world. Achieving the ambitious 2050 target of lowering emissions by 80% will benefit everyone. We can realize a livable, prosperous city that embraces the green economy – a city where people spend less time commuting, spend less money on energy costs and the fallout of extreme weather events, and breathe cleaner air.
