The City of Coquitlam is experiencing high growth rates and exciting new development challenges. The announcement of the Evergreen Rapid Transit Line and a rapidly growing town centre are generating a fast paced and dynamic work environment.  We are seeking a temporary Plans Examiner 1 to commence early August 2015.

As a member of the Building Permits Division Team, combining technical and clerical work, you will examine plans and permit applications relating to single family, small multi-family dwellings for compliance with the BC Building Code and by-laws. Using a considerable degree of independent judgment, you will:

discuss plans, projects and nonconformance issues with applicants
interpret/explain codes and clarify problem areas
make recommendations for revised plans
coordinate and process building permit applications.

Along with education from an Institute of Technology with a certificate (and, preferably, a diploma) in Building Technology plus considerable related experience in the building construction methods, architectural/engineering field, and preferably some experience in a municipal office, you also have sound knowledge of:

BC Building Codes, building and zoning bylaws
ability to interpret and apply BC Building Code, Bylaws, and regulations
a valid BC Driver’s License
BOABC Level 1 certification is preferred
experience with AMANDA is an asset.

You will possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills as well as exceptional customer service.  An equivalent combination of training and experience will also be considered.
