THE LOCATION: The Sunshine Coast is a vibrant community of approximately 29,000, just a short 40-minute ferry ride from West Vancouver. The Coast is known for its many outdoor activities and cultural events in addition to being just a short commute to all the amenities of a major urban centre.
THE POSITION:
The Sunshine Coast Regional District is currently inviting applications for the position of Planning Technician II (Full-time). Under the day to day supervision of the General Manager of Planning and Development, provides technical support to the SCRD development control processes for the Planning and Development Division.
Candidates must have:
FORMAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in planning or related discipline, from a recognized post-secondary institution, ideally supplemented by specialist training in computer/GIS applications and graphics.
Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of twelve (12) months experience in a planning setting; preferably in a local government.
OTHER SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft office applications specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
A good understanding of GIS applications including ArcMap and other ESRI products.
Ability to understand and analyze planning documents, maps, technical procedures, PIMS and other government regulations.
Strong organizational skills, ability to perform time sensitive tasks and to deal with a series of ongoing tasks.
Ability to present information effectively verbally or in writing and respond to questions from staff, local or provincial government official and the general public.

This is a bargaining unit position with a rate of $34.07 per hour and includes a benefit package after completion of a probationary period.
