Your role:

The Operations Manager position core duties are; the orderly planning and execution of production, quality assurance, housekeeping, and plant sanitation. The position will also be involved in other areas of plant operations including: maintenance, safety, environment, finance, shipping, receiving, hiring and training personnel, and capital improvements.  S/he will work closely with the production team to increase productivity and reduce costs, within the manufacturing operation. The Plant Operations Manager position, is the position which fills in for the Director of Plant Operations (Cornwallis), when s/he has to be away from the plant (vacation, etc.). This position, is the “second in command” position at the Cornwallis production facility.

Accountabilities:

Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the facility.
Closely monitor plant key performance indicators
Work closely with quality personnel to review product consistency while monitoring defective product rates to determine trends and areas of improvement.
Establish and execute production schedules, to ensure customer requirements are met
Work with HR to coordinate the hiring and training of all manufacturing personnel.
Monitor operation expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining product quality.
Work with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager to ensure all members of the manufacturing team work within the safety policies, and safe work procedures; to provide a safe workplace for our employees.
Maintain and support a superior safety and housekeeping program
Help develop and execute the annual plant manufacturing budget.
Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching and guidance to all operations employees.
Encourage and promote operating in a continuous improvement environment.
Remove production constraints; allocate human and equipment resources and direct production employees to attain all established goals.
Remove waste and constraints from the production process to improve efficiencies and enhance productivity.
Work with research and development personnel to develop new product strategies.
Work with purchasing department to develop and improve supplier relationships.
Work with the shipping department
Improve processes and policies in support of organizational goals. Work with the Director of Plant Operations and the VP of Manufacturing to formulate and implement organizational policies and procedures to maximize output.
Work with maintenance personnel on minimizing down time of equipment and machinery.
Provide technical support where necessary.
Facilitate coordination and communication between various departments
Manage relationships with suppliers
Manage quality of incoming raw material
Organize reworking of defective products
Respond to after hours, and weekend calls, from the production plant
Support the company’s vision and policies regarding safety and health, corporate culture and the Progressive Excellence Program by displaying the appropriate behaviors and leadership toward meeting the company’s objectives in these areas.

Qualifications/Abilities:

College degree in engineering, science, business administration or accounting
10 years of experience in operations management
Competency in MS office and business software applications
