The Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for Manager, Transportation and Waste Management. Reporting to the General Manager of Infrastructure Services, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly starting January 2016. The Manager, Transportation and Waste Management is responsible for both operational and capital project aspects of the RMOW roads, drainage, and flood protection systems, including snow clearing and acting as the local diking authority. This person will lead and manage the Roads department team, overseeing operational activities and service delivery. In addition, this position manages the operations and capital projects associated with solid waste in Whistler including the collection, handling and disposal of recyclables, compost, and garbage.
Qualified candidates will possess:
Completion of Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering (or related discipline). Certification as a Professional Engineer is a strong asset.
5+ years of experience in a similar leadership role in a municipal setting.
Previous experience leading and carrying out performance management and annual work planning.
Previous experience developing and managing operating and capital project budgets.
Previous experience leading community engagement and behavioural change initiatives.
Excellent working knowledge of asset management programs for public works and municipal assets.
Excellent working knowledge of municipal drainage and flood protection systems.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships at all levels.
The ability to lead by example, demonstrating managerial leadership, client service attitudes, integrity, creativity and enthusiasm in achieving results directly and through staff work teams.
The ability to compile and analyze technical information to identify issues, trends and communicate recommendations to various audiences including Senior Management and Council.
As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory drivers abstract prior to beginning employment.
