Temporary Full Time Position
The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced Professional Engineer to manage the Underground Services Section of the Engineering Department.  The Manager of Underground Services is responsible for leading a unionized technical team in the planning, modeling, design, renewal, and construction of municipal stormwater, waterworks, and sanitary sewer systems. The Manager also supervises the Engineering Department’s GIS and survey staff.

The Manager will lead the Underground Section to provide innovative, progressive and environmentally appropriate engineering solutions for upgrading and renewing the District’s underground infrastructure.  The Manager is responsible for the design and project management of the Underground Services annual capital program, the provision of engineering GIS services to the Department and the provision of surveying services to the District.  Management duties include leading, supervising, and staffing the section.  The Manager will ensure that the section’s work is coordinated and aligned with the goals of the Engineering Department and the District.

As a member of the Engineering Department’s Senior Management Team, the Manager will inform, guide and advise on matters of strategic planning related to the municipality’s underground infrastructure.

Requirements include an undergraduate degree in Engineering or related field, registration as a Professional Engineer in B.C. with eight years related Municipal Engineering experience and a valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a personal vehicle available for use as and when required.  Experience in asset management, infrastructure renewal, trenchless technologies, GIS, and stormwater management would be an asset.   An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
