The Role:

Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Operations, The Manager of Capital Projects will have a passion for the design and construction of municipal infrastructure, including water systems, sanitary sewers and drainage systems, road networks as well as a strong background in staff development, mentoring and coaching.
Technical Responsibilities:
Responsible for the implementation of the City’s capital program including project management, engineering design, tender preparation, construction, inspection, and record drawing completion.
Delivers the capital program using a combination of engineering consultants and Engineering staff.
Reviews construction designs and record drawings for capital works completed by the division.
Arrange and/or attend meetings with stakeholders to coordinate and inform the public about upcoming projects and to mitigate impacts.
Prepare and present reports to Senior Management, as well as Mayor and Council.

Requirements:
A university degree in Civil Engineering or a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology combined with significant knowledge and experience.
Five years’ experience working in or with municipal engineering departments.
Experience and practical knowledge of the methods, practices, techniques and equipment used in the design and construction of municipal infrastructure.
Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (or ASTTBC).
Knowledge and experience with Master Municipal Construction Documents, preferably certified by the association as a Contract Administrator.
Experience in the preparation of technical reports and presentations for a variety of audiences including Mayor and Council and the public.
Prior Management experience is an asset.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
