Area of Authority:
The Hazardous and Electronic Waste Operations Supervisor (full time position) provides the delivery and management of the Centre & South Hastings Waste Services Board’s Hazardous and Electronic Waste Phwhwrograms.
Qualifications:
Post Secondary Degree/Diploma in a relevant field and related work experience
Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated experience with the management of multiple simultaneous projects
Demonstrated ability to interact with the public, government and business sectors in a friendly, professional and informative manner.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule on an as required basis
Ability to work equally well in an outdoor/indoor environment
Capable of heavy lifting
G Class Drivers License with a clean abstract
Assets:
General Chemistry knowledge
Hazardous/electronic waste experience
Transportation of Dangerous Goods experience
Summary of Duties
The Operations Supervisor (OS) is responsible for the following:
A) Management, Coordination and Operation of the Hazardous and Waste Electronics Depot and Events including but not limited to:
Maintenance* of on-site documents and records (including but not limited to: Environmental Compliance Approvals and Reports; Operations Manuals; Annual Reports; waste manifests; TDG Equivalent Level of Safety Permits; other relevant documentation)
Maintain and update as necessary, arrangements with multiple service providers including but not limited to hazardous waste, electronic waste, batteries, propane tanks, motor oil and empty oil containers
Maintenance* of required documentation
Management* of a regular, seasonal Reuse Program
Supervision of depot staff (contract, part-time and seasonal) assuming the roles and responsibilities of Supervisor as defined in the OH&S Act
Maintenance of depot staff payroll records
Hands-on management of hazardous materials including collection, packing, preparation for recycling or disposal as required
Ensuring depot staff receive appropriate training including but not limited to Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certification, St. John’s Ambulance First Aid and CPR, as well as the operation of on-site fire suppression equipment and Leaks and Spills Control
Ensure* the upkeep, organization and tidiness of the main depot and proactively initiate site improvement projects in this regard where and when required
Ensure adequate and appropriate facilities, supplies, equipment and PPE are in place at all times
Maintain involvement with the Stewardship Ontario MHSW, Product Care and Ontario Electronic Stewardship Programs and any other appropriate funding initiatives
C) Statistical Compilation/Analysis and Reports
Ensure* maintenance and development of accurate and up-to-date electronic records of all materials collected, recycled, reused and disposed
Complete* statistical reports and analyses as requested by the HW Coordinator
Prepare* Monthly MHSW (Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste) reports as required
Assist with the Waste Diversion Ontario (WDO) Municipal HHW Tonnage Datacall
Preparation of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) statistical information and reports
Complete annual Hazardous Waste Information Network (HWIN) registration for the Depot and Mobile Event Sites
Compilation* of information for the HEW Program Annual Reports as required by the MoECC Environmental Compliance Reports
Provide regular reports to senior staff
Provide reports for the Waste Services Board’s monthly meetings
Assist in the development and improvement of record keeping procedures
D) Program Development
Assist in the development of policies and procedures that pertain to the Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste Programs
Assist in the development and expansion of the Household Hazardous and Electronics Waste Programs as it pertains to service area, materials and management
Proactively work to implement new programs in consultation with senior staff
Attend conferences, training sessions and meetings as they pertain to the ongoing development of employee skills as directed by the HW Coordinator
E) Maintenance of the Hazardous Waste Truck
Ensure the timely and appropriate interior and exterior maintenance, operation and licensing of the Hazardous Waste Truck
F) Other Responsibilities and Duties including but not limited to:
successful completion of a QWS driver’s test and documented training for all vehicles and attachments before operating same
work locations will be multiple sites
receive and maintain up-to-date training in technical and health and safety issues as directed by the Program Coordinator or other Management Staff
