Whistler was the Host Mountain Resort for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Financially sound and responsive to an engaged mayor and council, this is a high performance municipal organization serving a community that hosts more than two million visitors each year. Whistler is key to British Columbia’s tourism economy and contributes approximately $1.3 Billion annually toward provincial GDP.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for General Manager (GM), Infrastructure Services starting as soon as possible. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and functioning as a member of the Senior Management team.

The GM, Infrastructure Services will lead and manage the Infrastructure Services Division, overseeing the operation of, planning for, and improvements to, the municipal water utility; the sanitary sewer collection and treatment systems; the municipal maintenance garage; summer and winter roadway maintenance; the Transit system; drainage and flood protection infrastructure; and the municipal solid waste/recycling/composting systems. In addition, the GM, Infrastructure Services oversees emergency preparedness and planning; transportation demand management activities; engineering and technical support to other divisions and departments; the Municipal Approving Officer; central purchasing activities; and municipal fleet management.

Qualified candidates will possess:

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Professional Designation (P. Eng);
7-10 years of experience in a similar leadership and strategic role, preferably in a Municipal engineering environment or with a consulting engineering organization providing Municipal engineering services;
Experience managing in both union and non-union environments;
Experience with asset management programs for public works and municipal assets;
Experience managing departmental financial performance and proven ability to work with large budgets and the administration of construction contracts;
Excellent knowledge of municipal infrastructure and of the programs, facilities and services provided by municipalities;
Sound understanding of Provincial government organizations and their relationship to municipalities;
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including report writing and presentations;
Proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships at all levels and to engage and inspire partners and the community;
Proven ability to lead by example, demonstrating leadership, client service attitudes, integrity, creativity and enthusiasm in achieving results directly and through staff work teams.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory drivers abstract prior to beginning employment.
