POSITION: Facility Technician/Labourer (multiple positions)

HOURLY RATE: Facility Technician: $26.81 per hour
Labourer: $26.03 per hour
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week, as scheduled
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position works most of the year as a Facility Technician and the remainder as a Labourer.
Facility Technician: The Facility Technician is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all equipment in Western Financial Place and related facilities, ensuring all equipment is operating within defined parameters and performing other related duties as required.
Labourer: Perform the duties of Labourer and operate Municipal Works equipment as outlined in the Position Duties and Responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Grade 12 Diploma or G.E.D.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years of broad based experience in more than one of the following trades: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, plastering, painting, HVAC.
Minimum of 3 years of Municipal Works experience or work experience of a similar nature in private industry.
LICENSES/
CERTIFICATES: Power Engineer – 5th Class with refrigeration endorsement (BC or Interprovincial) – certification as a Refrigeration Operator or Ice Facility Operator will be considered in lieu of Power Engineer certification.
Pool Operator Certificate – Level One and Two.
Current First Aid certification and other related training certification as required by the facility.
Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License.
SPECIFIC
SKILLS: Thorough knowledge of company, local, provincial and/or federal regulations, policies/practices, code and legislation regarding occupational health, safety and environment.
Ability to select the appropriate tools and equipment required to perform all required maintenance tasks.
Possess skills in the following areas: curling ice, arena ice, swimming pool and HVAC systems.
Knowledgeable in company quality acceptance standards and practices.
Ability to record and maintain required information on appropriate forms.
Strong customer focus with well-developed customer service skills.
Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow oral and written instrucations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Strong problem solving skills.
Ability to organize multiple priorities and to set and meet personal goals and deadlines.
Confidence and ability to work under pressure.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Available to work various schedules, weekends, holidays, day, evening, night shifts as outlined in the collective agreement.
Respond to emergency call-out and undertake Disaster Service responsibilities as required.

This position is covered under the Collective Agreement between the City of Cranbrook and C.U.P.E. Local 2090 – Cranbrook Inside/Outside Workers.
