Environmental Services Technician – Fraser Valley Regional District – Chilliwack, BC

The Fraser Valley Regional District is comprised of six member municipalities and eight Electoral Areas, each containing numerous unique communities, cultures and landscapes.  The Fraser Valley Regional District covers roughly 13,900 square kilometers, equal to more than twice the size of Prince Edward Island.

We are inviting applications from qualified candidates to fill the Full-Time Union position of Environmental Services Technician.  Under the direction of the Manager of Environmental Services, the incumbent will assist with projects associated with the development and delivery of environmental programs throughout the Region, including the implementation of the Regional Solid Waste Management Plan, Air Quality Management Plan, Mosquito Pest Management Plan and corporate sustainability initiatives.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

A degree in Environmental Sciences or a related field with a good understanding of and preferably some experience working with environmental issues relating to the  various environmental files handled by this department or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of local government service delivery and municipal waste and air quality management practices is preferred, and knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures pertaining to Regional Districts, would be an asset.
Preferably experience in project implementation, conducting research and feasibility studies.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly, and converse with a wide range of people including technical consultants, elected officials, staff, and the general public.
Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner.
Must be in possession of a valid Driver’s Licence for the type of Fraser Valley Regional District vehicle being driven.

The wage rate for this bargaining unit position is $24.43 – $28.74 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package and pension plan. Please note that the wage rate for this position is currently under review.
