Your Role
Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Health Services, the Environmental Health Services Technologist I will support and enhance the work of the Environmental Health Services (EHS) Department by providing project coordination and contract administration.

As the EHS Technologist, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of 2 active landfills located in Heffley Creek and Lower Nicola as well as monitoring of numerous closed landfills. You will conduct regular inspections of active landfills to ensure contract compliance in daily operations. Working with landfill engineers and the EHS Operations Supervisor, you will ensure fill plans, closure plans, and other works are completed to specification and on budget. You will inspect and collect samples at closed landfill sites including sampling and maintenance of methane mitigation systems.

In addition, you will assist with landfill closure projects and other capital civil projects as required. You will also be responsible for contract administration of other solid waste services such as curbside collection. All aspects of your role will be carried out while ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements. As much of the work is outdoors, you must be willing to work in inclement weather.

Our Ideal Candidate
You have a degree or technical diploma related to natural sciences or engineering. You have experience preferably related to project management, landfill operations/solid waste management, heavy equipment operation, contract administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Local government and customer service experience would be an asset. SWANA certification in landfill operations would also be an asset. You must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a good driving record.

You possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and are able to work with considerable independence as well as in a team environment. You have strong organizational, planning, problem solving and project management skills.

The position is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 900. The biweekly salary for this position is Pay Grade 8, Step 1 – $2,120.46. The TNRD requires all positions undergo a Criminal Record Check.
