The Regional District of Nanaimo has an employment opportunity for an Engineering Technologist in the Solid Waste Services Department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of duties including overseeing the engineering and environmental programs at the Regional Landfill. Duties will include assigning tasks to subordinate staff with respect to site landfill phase and cell development as  well as the operation and maintenance of environmental control works. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing an annual report of the landfill environmental programs for submission to the Ministry of Environment. Further duties will include preparing engineering reports, equipment evaluation and acquisition and contract administration. Additionally, the incumbent will be the facility technical resource on environment controls and waste in waste acceptance. Other duties may include liaising with RDN departments and local governments, responding to inquiries and complaints from the public, administrative support and other technical duties as required.

Qualifications include a Diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering Technology or Environmental Sciences, or a related field, plus four (4) years prior job related experience in a local government setting, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The incumbent must be registered or eligible for registration as an AScT with the ASTTBC and must possess knowledge of landfill related terminology, principles, practices and techniques. Strong interpersonal communication, excellent administrative/technical report writing, conflict resolution skills and the ability to develop and lead a team will be a requirement for this position. Current knowledge/experience with word processing and Excel spread sheets is a requirement.
