The City of Parksville is seeking a qualified individual to join our Engineering Department as our new Engineering Technologist II. Under the direction of a supervisor, this is a technical position requiring both office and field assignments which are municipal civil engineering in nature. The work involves civil engineering design and drafting of municipal infrastructure including: roads, drainage, water and sewer utilities, parks, building and traffic facilities, inspection of works, hydraulic modeling, estimating, assisting with budgets, tendering and cost control of capital projects.
The Engineering Technologist II acts as a project lead for moderately sized municipal capital projects, may be required to inspect works, prepare AutoCAD drawings, coordinate design and servicing works with public utilities, organizations and other government agencies, produce design procedures, and upgrade specification manuals, may support the Development Engineer in reviewing development design submissions and write correspondence identifying engineering requirements for approval of proposed developments and provides training/direction to more junior technical staff, as assigned.
The City of Parksville is looking for a highly motivated, proven team player with exceptional interpersonal, communications and public relations skills and a demonstrated ability to “change gears” quickly, analyze, assess situations, prioritize and exercise sound judgment on key municipal matters. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a blend of natural leadership skills, strong relationship building qualities and a commitment to delivering exceptional public services and best practices in municipal civil engineering.
The ideal candidate will be a graduate from a technical institute with a Diploma of Civil Engineering Technology and certified (or actively pursuing) membership in the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia as an Applied Science Technologist. The candidate will have a minimum of four years practical related experience in the municipal engineering field; plus experience with SCADA control systems and hydraulic modeling programs.

This is a permanent, full-time union position (35 hours/week) with a wage of $34.47/hr (July 1, 2015, rate) after successful completion of probation.
