Engineering Technologist
The District of Sooke is seeking an Engineering Technologist to join our Engineering Department.

As a growing community of over 11,000, located on the southern most point of Vancouver Island and only a 40-minute drive to Downtown Victoria, Sooke offers the best of coastal community living. Sooke is the gateway to the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island and offers innumerable opportunities for outdoor adventure. Historically based on the forest and fishing industry, Sooke offers a small town feel while being nearby to the amenities of a large urban centre.

The Engineering Technologist performs technical engineering work of a semi-professional nature involving the performance of moderately complex field and office assignments within the Engineering and Public Works Department. This position is expected and required to exercise considerable independent judgment and action in most phases of work. The Engineering Technologist plans work assignments, obtains technical guidance where required and proceeds with the implementation and administration of established work programs and routines.

Success in this role requires:

Possession of a valid BC Drivers Licence (Class 5)
Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology program or related field from a recognized institute of technology
Eligibility to be registered as an Applied Science Technologist in BC
Three years’ prior job related experience in a similar position or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

The salary for the Engineering Technologist is $34.43/hour (2013 rates) plus an excellent benefit package.
