Job Description:
The City of Cold Lake is seeking a qualified individual to fill the permanent, full-time position of Engineering Technologist for immediate employment with the Department of Infrastructure.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Engineering Technologist will be responsible for the coordination and engineering inspection of municipal capital projects and development as it relates to roads, sewers, water mains, and facilities. This position will review preliminary and detailed design drawing submissions, handle inspection and enforcement of municipal development infrastructure installations, and assist the Transportation Services and Environmental Services Departments with troubleshooting infrastructure related issues. The Engineering Technologist is responsible for the collection of infrastructure data for the City’s geographical information system (GIS), preparation and/or coordination of municipal infrastructure planning reports, implementing detailed analysis of existing and proposed infrastructure, as well as compiling and maintaining the City’s record drawings and infrastructure reports.
The preferred qualifications for this position include a post-secondary Diploma in a Civil Engineering Technology Program, ability to qualify for and obtain the Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation, 1-3 years’ experience in managing infrastructure projects, and computer training in GIS and Auto Cad. The successful candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of current and proposed engineering design and operating standards of surveying and have strong verbal and written communication skills. This position also requires a Criminal Record Check, along with a Class 5 Driver’s license. Previous experience with a municipality is considered an asset.
