Applications are invited for the permanent position of Engineering Technician II in the Goose Bay office supporting the Labrador Region.
Duties: This position is accountable for advanced technical and administrative work in the planning, design, implementation and contract administration of maintenance, modernization, PHRP and Partnered Managed Housing projects in the Labrador Region, working in consultation with the Engineering Division. Develops/reviews plans, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for tender packages; oversees work in progress to ensure adherence to project schedules, costs and applicable codes; prepares inspection reports, progress claims and makes recommendations on change orders; prepares technical reports and makes recommendations on building renovations and other projects; conducts research on new building products; and performs other related work. Travel throughout the region is required.
Qualifications: Training/experience in design related to multi-unit residential buildings and site development and familiarity with the use of building codes and standards. Knowledge and/or experience in using core building science principles, the preparation of construction estimates; and contract administration procedures. The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal, oral and written (technical) communication skills and be proficient in the use of computer-aided design, word processing, and electronic spreadsheet applications. The qualifications for this position would normally be obtained through the completion of a diploma program in Civil, Architectural, or Building Engineering Technology at a recognized college or university or designation as a PTECH or CTECH (building discipline) by the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland and Labrador (AETTNL). Experience in environmental related work would be a definite asset. The successful applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and have a vehicle available for business purposes. A recent Certificate of Conduct is required.
Salary: On the CG-30 scale $25.18 to $27.96 per hour, based on a thirty five (35) hour work week. In addition to salary a Labrador Allowance is paid. NL Housing offers a comprehensive benefits package, including pension, group insurance and annual leave.
