Engineering Technician II – District of Lake Country

The Infrastructure Services Department is seeking a both a full-time permanent and 1 year term Engineering Technician to join their team. The Engineering Technician is responsible for providing technical assistance in the preparation of specifications, tender documents and coordination of annual capital works and maintenance, tenders and other similar projects; is required to prepare and maintain maps, plans, photographs, files and to provide land use and technical information to the public. This position assists with project management and the design, construction, inspection and maintenance of municipal infrastructure. Systems primarily include roads, drainage, water, sewer, micro-hydro generation as well as SCADA, information management, asset management, preventative maintenance and GIS. Duties involve working collaboratively with District staff, overseeing professional services providers and contractors and interacting with our customers to provide great service. The position works in a fast-paced environment and requires a high degree of technical problem solving. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in GIS. The normal work week is 40 hours, Monday to Friday, plus the option of an earned time off program.

The preferred candidates will have completed an engineering technology diploma or diploma in a related discipline and eligibility for a certificate of registration as an applied science technologist. A minimum of five years’ related experience in engineering planning and design with municipal systems and services as well. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and have solid Project Management capabilities. The hourly rate of pay for this unionized position is between $30.37/hr and $36.15/hr (2017 rates).
