Engineering Technician – City of Merritt – Merritt, BC

Position Summary

The Engineering Technician provides direct assistance to the Director of Engineering and Development by keeping accurate records of all Public Works/ Development activities and functions related to municipal utilities. This position also performs fieldwork such as surveying and off-site inspections as well as providing other general technical support to the Director and other municipal departments as required.

Salary

The 2016 pay rate as per the CUPE Collective Agreement is $35.42 per hour (certified) or $30.15 (uncertified), plus a comprehensive benefit package.

Hours of Work

This is a regular full time position working 40 hours per week.

Essential Qualifications

Civil Engineering Technology Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution (or Engineer In Training)
Ability to work independently, under pressure, set priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written) as well as the ability to deal with the public and coworkers in a diplomatic and courteous manner.
Demonstrated experience in delivering superior customer service and working within a team environment.
Valid BC Driver‘s License.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated exceptional working knowledge of Microsoft applications, specifically Word and Excel.
Complete working knowledge of AutoCAD.

Experience

Minimum two years recent experience in a similar position, preferably in a municipal setting.
