Position:

The City of Merritt is inviting applications for the position of a regular full time Engineering Technician.

Position Summary:

The Engineering Technician provides direct assistance to the Public Works Manager by keeping accurate records of all Public Works/ Development activities and functions related to municipal utilities. This position also performs fieldwork such as surveying and on-site inspections as well as providing other general technical support to the Public Works Manager and other municipal departments as required.

Salary:

The 2014 pay rate as per the CUPE Collective Agreement is $28.35 per hour (2015 rate under negotiation) plus a comprehensive benefit package covering medical/extended health, life insurance and pension is provided.

Hours of Work:
This is a full time position with hours of work as outlined in the CUPE Local 900 Collective Agreement.

Essential Qualifications:

Civil Engineering Technology Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution (or Engineer In Training)
Ability to work independently, under pressure, set priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written) as well as the ability to deal with the public and co-workers in a diplomatic and courteous manner.
Demonstrated experience in delivering superior customer service and working within a team environment.
Valid BC Driver‘s License.

Experience:

Minimum two years recent experience in a similar position, preferably in a municipal setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated exceptional working knowledge of Microsoft applications, specifically Word and Excel.
Complete working knowledge of AutoCAD.
