Halifax is a beautiful region of over 400,000 people located on the east coast of Canada. Founded in 1749, it has a deep history that is respected and honored. At the same time, it has a bright economic future with the advent of major energy-related and shipbuilding contracts.
With an economy that is expected to grow at well above the national average in coming years, there are many important issues to address, especially in the areas of land use, infrastructure planning, municipal servicing, and downtown revitalization.
On their behalf, we are recruiting two Development Engineers who will provide senior technical advice and direction on engineering design guidelines, construction standards, and industry practices, and approval for various land development activities.
What qualities are needed in a Development Engineer?
To begin with, you have a solid professional foundation in municipal engineering ideally in land development. This experience, which could have been gained working in a municipality or a consulting engineering firm, includes design, construction, operations, transportation, and traffic engineering.
Operationally, you will ensure all applications and requests related to design review, inspection and acceptance of municipal infrastructure receive a fair and consistent review and are handled in a timely manner. As the supervisor of a team of Engineering Technicians, you will provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to them so they can achieve their
personal goals.
Personally, your analytical and problem-solving abilities are well-developed and your natural approach is to look for solutions rather than finding reasons why something cannot be done. Your relationship management skills are fine-tuned as you seek to develop collaborative relationships with all stakeholders including the public, developers, contractors, municipal and provincial staff, and members of Council.
You must have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and be eligible for membership in Engineers Nova Scotia.
