The Development Services Department has a vacancy for a Development Engineer. The Development Engineer will lead technical staff in the review and approval of subdivision and other permit applications. This will involve close liaison with the engineering and building department staff and also external consultants as and when required to examine impacts of proposed development on City infrastructure.
This is a senior level position and will involve discussion and negotiation with developer representatives to define practical and realistic servicing agreement solutions that meet the requirements of City bylaws and senior Government legislation. The Development Engineer will be required to prepare reports to Council that clearly articulate issues and options for their consideration.
The successful candidate must have experience dealing with the full realm of private development functions including building and development permit applications, zoning, subdivision and long range planning initiatives from an engineering perspective.
The successful candidate will have obtained their registration as a Professional Engineer and be registered or eligible for registration with APEGBC. Computer skills must include high competency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel spreadsheets and familiarity with GIS, Database and Asset Management software would be an advantage.
The successful candidate will have a strong customer service orientation and the ability to address varied and time-sensitive needs of developers. They will have excellent communication skills; be a team player; have the ability to co-ordinate activities with other groups and have a minimum of 5 years experience in municipal engineering or consulting experience in a municipal environment.
