The Opportunity
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), Canada’s leader in wetland conservation, is looking for a confident, dedicated and enthusiastic Conservation Programs Specialist to join our team in Barrie, Ontario.
In this position, you will contribute to the continued development and implementation of DUC Ontario’s provincial policy program in support of our wetland restoration and protection goals for Ontario.
Within this role you will work to enhance the understanding of wetland values and the threats to those values, assess the policy framework around wetlands and identify opportunities to elevate wetland protection.
You will be part of the DUC Industry and Government Relations team in Ontario and support the delivery of broader initiatives the team is advancing.
Your previous experience working in the environmental field and working in or with municipal and provincial governments make you the ideal candidate for this position.
Requirements
Minimum of three years experience and educational equivalent of a college diploma in a related field, e.g biology, environmental science/studies, natural resources management, or public policy.
Well-developed knowledge of the public sector including provincial and municipal jurisdictions; demonstrated experience with policy development, review and analysis.
Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Proven communication skills to prepare written and oral technical reports, presentations, and briefing materials
Proven successful track record in building and managing stakeholder relationships including but not limited to: volunteers, politicians, bureaucrats, industry and NGO partners
Highly motivated with a proven ability to combine creativity with research and analytical skills.
Strong planning and project management skills.
Must have a passion for conservation, the environment and the outdoors.
This position will be based from our dog-friendly office in Barrie, Ontario.
