Building Inspector II OR Plan Checker/Building Inspector I
Permanent Full-time

The Community Services Department is seeking either a Building Inspector II OR a Plan Checker/Building Inspector I to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. The Position and pay grade will be dependent upon the successful candidate’s qualifications.

The position is responsible for directing compliance with the B.C. Building and Plumbing Codes & District Bylaws, by examining and checking construction and site plans, conducting field inspections, and meeting with members of the public for the purpose of promoting good construction and development in the District of Lake Country and, where necessary, takes appropriate action on enforcement of codes, acts and bylaws. The requirements for Building Inspector II include completion of a diploma in engineering or building technology, level II certification as a Building Inspector from the BOABC, and level I certification as a Bylaw Enforcement Officer from the Justice Institute. A minimum of four years related experience as a Building/Plumbing Inspector and/or experience in the construction industry (i.e. carpenter, plumber) with preference given to relevant experience in municipal government.

The hourly rate of pay for this unionized position is between $29.48/hr and $35.09/hr (2015 rates). The requirements for Plan Checker/Building Inspector I include one year toward a diploma in engineering or building technology or equivalent; level I certification as a Building Inspector from the BOABC and a minimum of three years related experience as a Building/Plumbing Inspector and / or experience in the construction industry (i.e. carpenter, plumber).

The hourly rate of pay for this unionized position is between $26.40/hr and $31.43/hr (2015 rates). A valid BC Driver’s licence is also required.

The normal work week is 35 hours, Monday to Friday, plus the ability to participate in an Earned Time Off program (ETO).
