Wage: Scale: $75,000 – $82,000
Weekly hours: 35 hours (some evenings and weekends)
Schedule of hours: Monday to Friday (typically)
Nature of Work:
Under the general direction of the CAO, the position performs a variety of duties related to building inspection and bylaw
enforcement.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
Reviews drawings and documents for building code compliance;
Performs building inspections and plan evaluations;
Assists the Planning and Development Department in performing the review and processing of building, development, signage, and development variance permits;
Prepares reports, maps, graphic materials, plans, specifications, field surveys, and other information documents;
Responsible for enforcing a broad range of Village bylaws and regulations;
Investigates and processes bylaw-related complaints;
Prepares evidence for court related to the prosecution of offenders;
Interprets bylaws, regulations and applicable rules to the public;
Enforces animal control and dog licensing regulations;
Other relevant and related duties as required.
Qualifications, Experience and Requirements:
BC Building Official Level 1 & 2;
Registered Building Official status with the Building Officials’ Association of BC;
Sound knowledge of residential and commercial construction methods and the BC Building and Plumbing Codes;
Ability to effectively read and interpret construction drawings;
Knowledge of and experience with municipal operations;
Grade 12 Diploma supplemented by construction experience in one of the building trades and enforcement-related education;
Bylaw Enforcement & Investigative Skills Level 1 and 2 (or willing to obtain);
Excellent conflict resolution skills to deal with difficult people and contentious issues;
Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license;
Proficient with computers and all aspects of MS Office;
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with officials, department heads and staff;
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally;
Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exercise courtesy and tact when dealing with both the public and staff;
Must be able to organize work to meet deadlines.
Interview and/or skill assessment may be required. Applicants without full qualifications or experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and Criminal Record Check.
