The key focus of the Mechanical Technician is the maintenance of mechanical equipment used across our sites; paying close attention to reliability, safety and value. The successful candidate will need to liaise with tenants, contractors etc., and overseeing equipment for potential faults and make recommendations for equipment improvements.
Duties:
You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, servicing and repairing a full range of equipment. You will perform work including activities which require comparison of a range of options, complex facts requiring analysis to resolve technical issues in complex and multifaceted equipment / situations.
HVAC – Monitor and adjust operation of central HVAC and building related systems. Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs and including filter replacements, belt replacement/adjustments, and minor repairs to same.
Daily review of operating trends, revision of set points and operating schedules through the HVAC Control System.
Equipment Logs – Carry out daily mechanical inspections to ensure that it is operating within the correct parameters.
Daily review of all Maintenance Requests and Preventative Maintenance Requirements; completing all paperwork and logs for same.
Liaise with contractors and facility tenants.
Monthly fire-related equipment inspections, ensuring proper operation.
You will be responsible for updating the security access controls, and Heating and Ventilation Control System changes, as required.
You will be responsible to ensure a safe and secure physical environment for all tenants and visitors, at each site.
You will be required to travel within the HRM area.
You will be required to participate in the After-Hours/On-Call rotation.
Skills/Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of Building Automation and Control Systems
Minimum 5 years’ experience in HVAC field
Experience required in minor electrical/plumbing repairs
Valid NS Driver’s License/vehicle required (travel expenses paid)
Basic computer skills
Strong interpersonal & follow up skills
Ability to use initiative and strong problem-solving skills, to resolve day to day issues
Ability to acquire a valid Criminal Record and Child Registry check (Gov’t Personnel Screening)
Ability to work alone, or as a member of a Mechanical/Maintenance Team, to meet tight deadlines in a demanding environment
Accuracy and strong attention to detail
Strong communication skills
Secondary education considered an asset*
