Electrical Supervisor – Victoria Airport Authority – Sidney, BC

Salary: $41.52 per hour
Electrician 2 ($36.11 hourly) plus a 15% Supervisory Premium (based on 2015 rates)

The Electrical Supervisor is responsible for the supervision, maintenance, repair and safe operation of all Airport electrical systems.  Electricians must be available to respond to after hour’s lighting, signage, electrical emergencies and winter operations.  The Electrical Supervisor is a union position reporting to the Director, Operations & Safety and will normally work a 40 hour work week.

Education & Experience
Completion of Grade 12 and BC or Inter-provincial Journeyman ticket with a minimum one year airport related experience required.  Minimum of five years of combined supervisory experience and/or the direct management of electrical contractors, consultants and contracts.  WHMIS certification and a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s licence are job requirements.  Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

In addition, within two months of hire, the successful candidate must obtain and maintain the following certifications:

Airside Vehicle Operator Permit (AVOP).
Radio Operator’s Certificate – Aeronautical.

Knowledge
Significant knowledge of electrical systems and internal live high voltage systems.  Knowledge of policy and standards, airport emergency procedures, safety and security, and safe work place practices and regulations.  Excellent working knowledge of business English and math as well standard office software.

Ability to read and interpret blue prints, engineering documents and manuals.
Above average mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new technology.
Personal suitability to work in emergency, hazardous (i.e. confined space, heights) and inclement weather situations.
Physical ability to hike to remote beacon sites.

Security
Must pass and maintain enhanced Airport security clearance as a condition of employment.

Duties
Provide supervision, mentorship, leadership and direction for staff.
Conduct performance appraisals; handle staff performance issues (e.g. progressive discipline within their authority).
Administer department’s operational and maintenance budget.
Develop, monitor and maintain preventative maintenance schedules.
Produce specifications and cost estimates.
Manage contractors, projects, coordinate trades, schedules and consultations.
Make repairs, installations, inspections, upgrades and modifications using current safety, Canadian Electrical code, National Fire code standards and other related codes to airfield, parking, building lighting and control systems, normal and emergency high and low voltage power distribution systems, motors, generators, PA system, general lighting, gates, clock systems and other electrical equipment.
Within the electrical field, accurately complete all required documentation, both written and digital, and ensure it is communicated to appropriate personnel or agencies.
Lead ongoing training, upgrades, safety and technology advancements.
Assume personal responsibility of safety related training and courses for subordinates and co-workers promoting the VAA’s Safety Management System and its safety culture
Assist as needed or requested in other related or non related duties.
