ELECTRICAL ESTIMATOR
What’s involved:
As an Electrical Estimator with Canal you will be responsible for working on a full-range of electrical and instrumentation projects to analyze costs and prepare estimates, as well as provide technical and administrative support to project operations as required.
Local Travel within the Great Lakes St Lawrence Seaway region.
Preparing electrical estimates of probable costs of materials, labor and equipment for construction projects based on request for proposal (RFP) documents, cable equipment & instrumentation lists, and technical specifications.
Interpreting project drawings and specifications, analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation.
Research, qualify and prospect new clients and customers that may have dealt with Canal over a prolonged duration; identifying potential business opportunities
Solicit and review pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
Participate in electrical site review, tender review, tender hand-off, project closing and turnover meetings with Project Management on successful bids.
Review contracts for onerous clauses and conditions.
Manage project financial performance from proposal to completion.
Participate in procurement of material and equipment for secured projects as required.
Mandatory site visits & job assessments.
Cold call prospecting and working with existing clients.
Working as a subcontractor to several general contractors and working as a contractor liaison.
Working with and estimating costs for a unionized (IBEW) workforce.
Bid presentations & negotiations.
Skills:
Computer skills: MS Word, Excel spreadsheet & databases, MS Power Point, Outlook, MS Project.
Proposal, specification and contract writing.
A working knowledge of AutoCAD and the ability to read electrical drawings.
Paper Filing Systems.
Estimating material and manpower requirements or small to large jobs.
Well presented
Organized
Planning and Scheduling Skills.
Negotiation Skills
Excellent communication skills
Self Starter.
Minimum Qualifications:
College training and certification in an electrical discipline.
Knowledge of low voltage (<600v) marine and industrial switchgear & systems
Familiarity with Motors, Starters, VFDs, switchboards, MCCs, panels, cable trays, wire ways, cable trays & ducts, conduit, cable types, controls & Instrumentation.
Minimum of 5 years work experience in an electrical estimator/sales position.
A working knowledge of AC & DC marine generation and propulsion systems is considered an asset
