$200,000 per year or based on experience

Location of Work:
Based out of Calgary but required to travel to projects across Western Canada as needed

Skills requirements:
Education: University Degree in civil engineering or a college diploma in construction technology; or High School diploma with extensive experience in the construction industry

Work experience: at least five (5) years of experience in working for a full-service heavy civil and industrial general contractor company, five (5) years of relevant experience in managing $100 million large-scale construction projects, and experience in managing contractors and sub-contractors; other requirements: strong communication, personnel and equipment management, project management, and cost control skills

Job Duties:
The Regional Construction Manager is the individual charged with the responsibility for the complete and satisfactory execution of all field related activities within the region. The Regional Construction Manager reports directly to and works under the direction of the Regional Manager. Working with the Regional Manager, the Regional Construction Manager meets as needed with the Regional Engineer, Regional Equipment Manager and Regional Safety Manager. The Regional Construction Manager also meets regularly with the Project Managers to coordinate the execution of the work at their respective projects. When no Project Manager is assigned to the project, the Construction Manager meets with the Foreman or Superintendent. The Regional Construction Manager is a company representative and must conduct him or herself in a professional manner at all times so as to reflect positively upon Ames.

The Regional Construction Manager shall:

Emphasize that safety is Ames’ number one value.
Be responsible for production and operational costs on all projects within the region.
Be familiar with all active projects within the region.
Work with the Regional Manager and the Regional Engineer to assign staff to Regional projects.
Make certain each member of the project staff understands their responsibility.
Review mobilization plan with the Project Manager and the Project Superintendent.
Understand manpower needs for the project.
Provide input into the schedule.
Prioritize regional resources, employment needs and project schedules.
Anticipate project needs and potential problems and take steps to address them.
Assist the Project Manager in all disputes that may arise internally, with Owners and with Subcontractors.
Coordinate regional project equipment needs with Regional Equipment Manager.
Maximize the use of Ames-owned equipment.
Control and minimize use of rental equipment.
Administer the programs and policies of Ames.
Implement sound cost controls at the project.
When necessary, discipline supervision on the project in accordance with Ames’ policy.
Promote Ames and look for additional work opportunities.
Assist in bidding new projects.
Know and understand the duties of the Project Manager, Project Engineer, Project Superintendent and Foreman.
Assist and provide input to Project Managers with regard to major change orders.
Coordinate inter-regional personnel needs and discuss with the Regional Manager.
Recommend and direct measures to improve production, quality and safety.
Make decisions in the best interest of Ames and/or the Owner while maintaining complete integrity and authority.
Teach and train Project Superintendents in the performance of their duties.
Regularly visit project within the region ensuring: staff is completing tasks, projects are on schedule and jobsites are neat, orderly and safe.
Conduct annual performance reviews for all operation supervision.
Assists in operation employee hiring by working with the Regional Human Resource Department and/or unions to get good craft people.
Review and analyze weekly production reports from each project.
The Regional Construction Manager may be responsible for other duties assigned and consistent with the role. The duties and responsibilities of the Regional Construction Manager may be adjusted to meet specific corporate requirements.
