We are currently seeking a high caliber Marine Construction Superintendent/ Construction Manager for a project based in St. John, NB. You will be working for one of the world’s leading engineering, procurement and construction companies.
Overall Purpose of Job
The Civil Marine Superintendent is required to be involved in field level multi-discipline planning and execution as applicable to the construction contractor’s daily work plans. The role is to understand the hands on work being executed in the forefront of marine piling construction.
Primary Job Duties/Functions
Responsible to ensure that all work is conducted with Safety as the number one focus in planning and execution of work.
Responsible for marine construction work with a specialty in heavy marine, jetties, ports and terminals assisting in establishing the client’s requirements as it pertains to early works construction execution plans.
Candidates require experience with anchoring systems and associated with jetty construction and wharf infrastructure
Ability to coordinate labor, subcontractors/suppliers and Plant & Equipment associated with a marine work site
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a team
Proactive approach to dealing with issues and has the ability to solve problems and to resolve conflict
Assuming responsibility for the following functions: Marine, coordination of contractors, and their workforce, including excavation, installation including test piles, foundations installation including formwork, reinforcing, embeds and anchor bolts.
Maintaining progress of assigned area and/or contractor.
Monitor and audit the performance of contractor personnel in assuring that work is completed according to specifications, plans, construction schedules, applicable safety regulations, and quality requirements.
Coordinates with the Engineering Manager and Project Engineering to resolve technical problems encountered during the Marine construction phase.
Participates in weekly review meetings to discuss work progress and area plans in order to resolve problems of schedule delays indicated by trend data.
Works closely with all of the CMT disciplines relative to the reporting requirements as per the client’s direction.
Responsible for participating in risk and value management in regards to cost and schedule control.
Responsible for providing advice on contractual claims.
Act as the steward for safety through assisting in the implementation of an effective safety program which meets applicable regulations.
Maintain effective relations with clients and the community.
Minimum Qualifications including Education and Related Experience
Five-Ten (5-10) years of experience in the successful management of civil marine activities on large to mega scale projects.
Fully knowledgeable and experienced in the means, processes and methods needed to successfully construct a marine program and associated structures
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Marine and cold weather experience.
