Manager of Building Inspection and Bylaw Services – City of Colwood

The City of Colwood has an opportunity for a Manager of Building Inspection and Bylaw Services, a position that will play an integral role in maintaining the City’s safety, livability and sustainability, and fostering a team approach to supporting and regulating new construction.

Colwood is a fast-growing, family-oriented, ocean side municipality of nearly 17,000 people, located on the West Shore of Greater Victoria. Home to the growing Royal Bay community, Royal Roads University, Hatley Castle, Fort Rodd Hill & Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites and Esquimalt Lagoon Migratory Bird Sanctuary, Colwood is surrounded by beauty and poised for success.

The Manager will be responsible for long term planning and directing the daily operations of the Building Inspection and Bylaw Services team, ensuring that building construction in Colwood meets the health and safety requirements of the BC Building Code.

Required skills include knowledge of the BC Building Code and incoming BC Building Act, knowledge of local government legislation, demonstrated leadership abilities, proven conflict management experience and exceptional written and oral communication skills.

The successful applicant will have a technical degree or diploma in engineering or civil or building technology and 8-10 years of progressively responsible building inspection and supervisory experience, as well as a Level 3 Building Official certification from the Building Officials’ Association of BC.
