Reporting to the Director of Development Services, the Manager of Building works collaboratively with development services, fire inspection and by-law enforcement staff to ensure that existing businesses and new development aligns with City policies and regulatory requirements. The Manager leads a team of highly trained building inspectors and is responsible for the development, administration, implementation and enforcement of policies and regulations critical both to the protection of public health and safety and to the growth of the community.
Our ideal candidate:
has a solid understanding of and experience with building permit and inspection processes
is driven to achieve positive customer experiences and is a tactical problem solver
has a track record of delivering a high level of quality and consistency to applicants, professionals, colleagues, Council and the public
Is an experienced team leader who believes in setting clear expectations, holding people accountable and working collaboratively to achieve goals
thrives on growing, developing and empowering staff
continually looks at process improvements to achieve regulatory requirements consistent with industry best practices
has achieved post-secondary success (diploma or degree) in a related discipline
is accredited as a Certified Professional or Registered Building Official with BOABC
has 10+ years of related experience in progressively more senior management roles
has a positive, energetic, “can-do” attitude
The City offers a generous compensation and benefits package with an annual salary up to $128,000.
