The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced senior-level engineering technologist or intermediate level engineer to join our Engineering Department in the Underground Services Division.

Underground Services is responsible for management of the water, sewer and drainage utility systems, including network capacity and asset renewal planning, infrastructure design, construction and records management. GIS mapping and surveying services for the greater Department are also functions of this team.

The successful candidate will perform technical duties in the field of civil engineering as well as administration and supervisory duties in the Infrastructure Delivery Section. Duties include: Providing in-house technical expertise at a semi-professional level; supervising and directing a team in all aspects related to daily work and operations; providing oversight for project designs and construction; supporting capital program planning, budgeting and financial management; coordinating internal capital construction works projects; supporting the implementation of tools and processes according to the Project Management framework developed by the Project Management Office.

Requirements for this position include a Diploma in Civil Engineering; a minimum of 8 years progressive related experience as well as one year of recent supervisory experience preferably in an unionized or engineering office environment. The successful candidate shall be registered as an engineering technologist with ASTT of BC or registered in a professional capacity with EGBC; shall possess a working knowledge of computer based engineering applications including AutoCAD, GIS, computer modelling and spreadsheets. The successful candidate must have strong communication skills, demonstrate sound organizational skills and have the ability to inspire the team to deliver on Division goals. A valid BC Class 5 driver’s license is required.

Familiarity with trenchless pipe rehabilitation techniques would be an asset.
