The District of Saanich is seeking up to two experienced senior-level engineering technologists to join our Engineering Department. The Transportation and Development Services Division manages the transportation network as well as designs roadways, pedestrian and bicycle facilities. The successful candidate(s) will perform civil engineering work as well as administration and supervisory duties in either the Transportation Engineering or the Design Services Sections. Will provide in-house technical expertise in the field of civil engineering related to transportation planning and engineering, municipal infrastructure, capital project development and project management for transportation infrastructure in accordance with District plans and objectives. Coordinates and directs section staff in all aspects related to their daily work and operations. Duties include: supervision, technical oversight, engineering analyses, capital planning, coordination of capital works projects, including necessary consultant studies, preliminary and final design, public/stakeholder inquiries and consultations, preparation of cost estimates and specifications, preparation of tender documents, analysis of and tabulation of bids, review of insurance and bond documents, review of job cost allocations and tracking of assets as well as managing projects as defined within the framework and guidance developed by the Project Management Office. Familiarity with traffic engineering principles, practices and analyses, road and bikeway design standards, project management, and road construction procedures would be an asset.
Requirements for these positions include a Diploma in Civil Engineering; a minimum of eight years progressive related experience as well as one year of supervisory experience; registered as an engineering technologist with ASTT of BC; working knowledge of computer based engineering applications including AutoCAD and transportation engineering software applications; a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license and the use of a personal vehicle. PMP certification and knowledge of municipal approval processes and standards would be an asset.
