The District of Central Saanich, located on the Saanich Peninsula of Southern Vancouver Island, is part of the Greater Victoria Area and enjoys the reputation of being among the best locations in Canada to work, live and play. The District is bounded on both the east and west by ocean with many beach access points and is central to all amenities of the Greater Victoria area. This community of 18,000 residents has a vibrant, rural/small village character and is concentrated in defined settlement areas with a large agricultural land base. The District is searching for a Director who will lead the Planning, Development and Building teams to achieve the overall vision of the organization and the community.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director is responsible for the management and supervision of all corporate functions related to current and long-range planning activities, policy
development and analysis, land use approval and building permits. As a member of the District’s leadership team, the Director is integrally involved in the District’s strategic direction to achieve the
community vision.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a post graduate degree in Planning or a closely related field, with seven or more years in planning and land use, preferably in the Municipal Sector.
Membership, or eligibility for membership in PIBC and/or the Canadian Institute of Planners is required. The ideal candidate must have strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership and communication skills and have demonstrated success in working effectively with elected officials, developers, staff, community representatives and the general public. The ability to clearly communicate written and verbal communications and manage multiple points of view is required.
