SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
Participate as a member of the Construction Management Services team by providing technical and administrative support to senior staff with various construction related tasks and responsibilities on a diverse range of engineering projects primarily related to flood and erosion control, waterfront development, and infrastructure protection.
KNOWLEDGE:
Minimum 2 year post-secondary diploma in Construction or Civil Engineering Technology;
Membership in good standing with OACETT an asset;
Two years’ experience related to the major tasks preferred;
Excellent computer skills, including experience with MS Office (Project, Word, Excel, Access) ;
Ability to interpret detailed design drawings, perform quantity take offs and assist with construction estimates;
Solid understanding of Contract Law;
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public;
Able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing with team members, internal/external clients, consultants, contractors and members of the public;
Valid Ontario “G” driver’s license and ability to acquire a TRCA driver’s certificate;
Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Provincial Standards and Details, and standard construction documents (RFQ/RFTs, RFIs, SIs, COs)
SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS:
Perform the following tasks under general supervision:
Assist with material quantity takeoffs and the preparation of construction estimates.
Assist with review and preparation of tenders and construction specifications.
Create detailed construction project schedules and maintain Master Construction Schedule for the Engineering Projects Group.
Obtain road occupancy permits, order locates, secure damage deposits, obtain supplier quotes for various materials and services.
Prepare communications to obtain internal approvals required to procure services. Create Purchase Orders and coordinate the delivery/pick up of materials as required.
Assist with contract inspections and attend site meetings as directed.
Prepare and maintain concise records, including meeting minutes.
Assist with project monitoring & reporting.
Ensure work is conducted in compliance with all applicable Acts, Regulations, policies and procedures. Attend ongoing training and professional development courses as directed by TRCA.
Perform other duties as assigned.
