The District of North Saanich invites applications for the permanent part-time position of Bylaw Enforcement Officer /Building Inspector. Working under the direction of the Director of Planning & Community Services Department, the Bylaw Enforcement Officer/Building Inspector position performs work of an inspection and regulatory nature related to the application and enforcement of all regulatory municipal bylaws and regulations in the District and the B.C. Building Code. This position involves regulatory and investigation work involving the enforcement of Municipal bylaws. The incumbent investigates and processes alleged bylaw violations and takes remedial action as required to obtain bylaw compliance. The incumbent also carries out on-site inspections of new construction, alterations, renovations and repairs while work is in progress to ensure building code and bylaw requirements are met.

Applicants must have high school graduation; completion of an apprenticeship program and journeyman status as a carpenter or plumber in the Province of B.C. or alternatively, completion of a two (2) year technical course in structural design and engineering from an institute of recognized standing; Bylaw Enforcement & Investigative Skills Level 1 and 2 (or willing to obtain); and, a minimum of five years directly related experience in a local government setting. Consideration will be given to candidates with an equivalent combination of experience, education and training. The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and Criminal Record Check.
