School District 79 (Cowichan Valley) is seeking qualified applicants interested in the above unionized position (CUPE Local 5101) as part of the District’s Operations Department.
THE COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL DISTRICT
Based in Duncan, B.C., the urban centre of the Cowichan Valley School District is located in beautiful South-Central Vancouver Island, a region known for its warm climate and natural beauty as well as its diverse cultural and recreational opportunities. The District is comprised of several distinct communities, extending from the coastal community of Mill Bay northward to historic Chemainus and to rugged Lake Cowichan in the west. From our central administration site, we operate 30 facilities serving approximately 7,300 students and have an annual operating budget of $73 million.
THE POSITION
Under the supervision of the Capital Coordinator, the Building Technologist performs the necessary tasks to plan and ensure timely completion of minor Capital projects throughout the District. Duties include development and maintenance of facility databases and coordination of project work with the Operations Department management team, as well as assistance with the execution of Major Capital facilities projects as required.
THE APPLICANT
The successful applicant will possess:
Diploma of Building Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution
Facilities planning experience, ideally in a school district or similar public organization
Demonstrated skill in the implementation and use of technology in relation to facilities management
Experience and ability in the management of multiple competing priorities
Superior interpersonal skills, as well as effective communication and analytical abilities
This position is full time at 37.5 hours per week with the current rate of pay being $27.95 per hour plus an attractive benefit package.
