Reporting to the Manager of Planning, the Building Inspector/Plumbing Inspector is responsible for enforcing building and plumbing codes and related RDCO building bylaws through inspection of all types of buildings undergoing construction, alteration or repair and determining whether works conform to approved plans and/or bylaws. This position also works in the Business Licensing program.
Thorough knowledge of BC Building and Plumbing Codes and Local Government regulations, policies, procedures, and bylaws is essential. Your ability to understand building related codes and read construction drawings, combined with interpreting technical data will enable you to enforce compliance with building codes, coordinate building activity, and carry out building inspections in accordance with bylaw requirements.
The successful candidate will have Level I BOABC Certification with 2 years’ experience as well as be eligible for Level 1 Certification under POAAC. Excellent communication skills are required to convey necessary information to public, professionals, and staff and maintain effective working relationships with associated contacts. Proficiency in MS Office is required; working experience in computer data base software such as Vadim would be an asset. A valid BC Driver’s Licence with record of safe driving is essential.
The rate of pay for this position is $35.12 per hour and the schedule is strictly an on-call, as needed basis.
