The City’s Development Services Division has a vacancy for a Building Inspector III.  This position performs plan reviews and monitoring inspections for Complex building projects and assists the Building and Permitting Manager in the coordination of permit and business licence reviews and bylaw enforcement.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Building Official with a thorough understanding of the Community Charter related to Building regulations, enforcement and policy development.  A Building Officials Association of B.C. Level III (RBO) and Plumbing Officials Association of B.C. Level I is also required.  A Journeyman carpentry or plumber certification will be considered an asset.

A thorough knowledge of Building and Plumbing regulations, standards and the related by-laws, along with thorough knowledge of computer applications are necessities for this position.

You must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with owners, tradesmen, contractors and others and enforce rules and regulations with tact and diplomacy.  The ability to understand and interpret building plans, alternative solutions and specifications for complex buildings including sprinkler and plumbing applications, while preparing and maintaining comprehensive plans, reports, correspondence are required in this role.

The successful candidate must be able to able to multi-task in a fast pace environment with a high attention to detail.  Customer service skills are vital along with the ability to resolve difficult situations with a professional and considerate manner.
