Writing and Book Camp Coordinator – City of Vancouver – Vancouver, BC

Job Summary: Vancouver Public Library is seeking a candidate recently graduated from post-secondary studies to assume a leadership position as Coordinator for a day camp for youth, ages 11-16, under the guidance and supervision of the Assistant Manager, Programming & Learning.

Duties include: project management for delivery of Camp program; recruitment, selection and training of Camp volunteers; registration of campers and scheduling of Camp activities; communication with keynote speakers and workshop leaders; solicitation of donations from sponsors; supervising the running of the Camp over the week-long period August 10 to 14, 2015; gathering materials and overseeing publication of the Writing & Book Camp Anthology; gathering feedback from participants and presenting a final report.

Qualifications: Recent graduate from Library Science, Education, Creative Writing and/or Publishing program; background experience and an interest in working with children and youth; an interest in, and some familiarity with, works of Children and Young Adult literature; strong computer and research skills, particularly MS Office; excellent communication and organization skills; ability to prioritize tasks, be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances; ability to work within a team; ability to take ownership of projects and oversee a team of volunteers.

Subject to funding by Young Canada Works – Building Careers in Heritage (Internship), the successful candidate must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have been granted refugee status in Canada and be legally entitled to work in Canada. The candidate must be 30 years of age or less at the start of employment and must have graduated from college or university within the last 24 months from the start of employment. The candidate must be registered with the Young Canada Works online candidate inventory and not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with Young Canada Works.

This position is 35 hours per week from May 4 to August 28, 2015 (inclusive).

Rate of pay is $25.61 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
