The City of Duncan is seeking a planning student or recent graduate for a Temporary Student Planner position during the spring and summer of 2015. The position is supervised by the City Planner in the Development Services Department.
Duncan is located on Vancouver Island, in the heart of the ‘Warmland’ – the Cowichan Valley – mid-way between Nanaimo and Victoria. This compact city offers high quality living and acts as the commercial and social centre of a service area with a population of approximately 80,000 people.
Tasks will focus on special projects such as the implementation of the Integrated Community Sustainability Plan and Duncan Area Active Transportation Plan, as well as bylaw updates. The successful candidate may also assist in research, processing of development applications, responding to inquiries from the public, and report writing. Knowledge and experience in land use planning is required.
This is a temporary student position within the Canadian Union of Public Employees – Local 358, with an hourly rate of $20.37 (2015 rate), plus 4% of the gross wage in lieu of benefits. The work week is 35 hours and the position will last for 6 months, beginning as early as April 6th, 2015. Candidates must have completed full time post-secondary studies within the past six months or be a returning student.
