GreenHere is a registered charity dedicated to increasing green space in Toronto’s neighbourhoods. Working together to improve the environment and safeguard the health and wellness of all residents, GreenHere’s mission is to increase green infrastructure by advocating, planting, and caring for the urban forest. By planting trees today and developing tree stewardship programs, we are protecting urban ecosystems and long-term air quality for generations to come.
This summer GreenHere will be continuing its PLAYbynature Project with a series of POP UP Adventure Playgrounds for children that are produced in public parks and Toronto Community Housing green spaces in companion with a green space consultation process to engage community members in planning for better outdoor play provision & improved recreational enjoyment for all community members.
POP UP ADVENTURE PLAY CO-ORDINATION Responsibilities
Work with Executive Director and Project Director to plan and co-ordinate POP UP Adventure Days, including materials donations, social media and event promotion, and volunteer management
Assist with all duties related to delivering the POP UP event, including loading and unloading of materials, safety procedures, playwork leadership and outreach with parents on the day of the event
Assist in the preparation of training materials related to playwork and “loose parts” play
Work with E.D. and Project Director to plan and co-ordinate FOLLOW UP park consultations, connecting with local Councillors’ offices, Parks staff and communities
Assist with outreach, planning and co-ordination of FOLLOW UP parks consultations
Assist with outreach and co-lead corporate volunteering stewardship days in local parks.
Assist with the pre-employment youth who will volunteer in July.
Participate in/co-lead POP UP Adventure Days and workshops, as required this summer
Apply safety precautions and procedures in the performance of all duties, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Create, update and distribute communication, educational and event materials, including flyers, brochures, translations, Facebook and website input, video documentation and editing
Assist with various administrative duties and other tasks to support GreenHere.
Qualifications
Full-time student returning to full-time studies in Sept. 2015
Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Canada.
Education and/or experience in working with children in outdoor activities
Education and/or experience in environmental planning for children
Ability to speak a second language (especially Spanish, Arabic, Italian, Portuguese, South Asian i.e. Gujarati and Tamil and Asian languages i.e. Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese and Korean) is considered an asset
Ability to work in a team environment and independently
Interest in community development and community health; the connection between wellness and urban green spaces
Experience working with a not for profit (work or volunteer) is considered an asset.
Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions and should be physically fit (must be able to lift, carry, stand and walk approximately 5 hours/day- with breaks)
Respect for diverse cultures and ability to work well with people of different social, cultural and educational backgrounds, working within an anti-oppression framework
Able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
Able to work occasional evenings and several weekends
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Knowledge of graphics, visual and video documentation software applications
Understanding of child development and supervision issues; interest in playwork principles
Self-motivated, creative and critical thinker with an attention to detail
Adaptability, able to work in a variety of conditions
Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
