Outdoor Play / Learning (OPAL) Project Coordinator – Earth Day Canada – Toronto, Ontario

Earth Day Canada is building an Outdoor Play and Learning team, which will conduct school trainings to develop the confidence and capacity to provide enriched and inclusive schoolyard play.

Earth Day Canada (EDC) is seeking a Coordinator to work closely with our Play and Education teams to support the implementation of school trainings over 2 years and to assist with the broader educational aspects of the project. We are looking for a dynamic team player, who demonstrates flexibility, reliability and initiative along with strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Funding for this position will be confirmed in November, however, in the hopes of initiating this project in late November, EDC will invest in training for this position in late October for the preferred candidate. The training involves 5 days of preliminary training in playwork principles and the OPAL school training system (http://www.outdoorplayandlearning.org.uk).

Responsibilities will include:

Coordination with participating schools, advisory committees, research teams and other stakeholders regarding project activities.
OPAL training facilitation and ongoing support for school-based implementation teams.
Communications and promotional support via social media, print materials and online resources.
Research and sourcing of project supplies (i.e., loose parts for adventure play).
Assistance with documentation and data collection.
Assistance with event planning and coordination of professional development symposiums.
Supporting project deliverables and performing other tasks as assigned.

Required skills and experience:

Post-secondary education in a related field.
Ability to work within a team setting while showing initiative and independence.
Excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience with social media and program promotion.
Solid organizational, logistics, administrative and time management skills.
Experience working with educators, especially within a school setting.
Capacity to set priorities and adapt within a pioneering environment.
Flexible collaborative personality.
Demonstrated empathic understanding of the issues to be addressed by the project.
