Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve Ltd. The “Forest” or “Wildlife” as it is known locally, represents the largest private land holding in Central Ontario. Over 80,000 acres of forests, lakes, streams and wildlife form the backdrop for this world-renowned property. Entwined throughout the operation is an extensive and very unique outdoor, environmental and experiential education program.
Haliburton Forest is dedicated to providing quality education programs to both youth and adults in a variety of settings.
Outdoor Experience Interns have the opportunity to take part in all aspects of Outdoor Education providing outdoor, experiential programs and guiding groups on outdoor sport and recreation trips. Possible groups that interns may have an opportunity to work with include Elementary Schools, High Schools, Elderhostel, Military, Scouts & Cubs, youth at risk, etc… Outdoor Education Interns will also perform all the same behind the scenes duties that our OE staff would, inclusive of but not limited to helping at the dog kennels, cleaning accommodations, maintenance, shuttling of gear/participants, etc…
Internships are non-paying however Interns receive a weekly allowance for food and laundry plus free accommodations in exchange for the work that they would perform. Internships run for 4 months or longer. Interns work an average of 5 days per week during the core hours of 7:55 am to 5:00 pm and work under the supervision of a full-time staff to first watch, assist, then work on their own as they become confident and comfortable. Evening, overnight and weekend work may be required.
