The City of Yellowknife is currently seeking a qualified individual to assume the position of Lifeguard/Instructor with the Community Services Department for a one year term.

Under the direction of the Pool Supervisor, the incumbent provides constant safety supervision, instructs a wide variety of aquatic/first aid programs, assists with special events, and completes necessary administrative work associated with programs, accidents, incidents, mechanical issues, cleaning and cash outs.  The incumbent is also responsible for balancing water chemistry, being able to perform emergency circulation systems shutdowns and start-ups, back-up for chlorine primary responders and is responsible for specific areas of facility cleanliness.  Furthermore, the incumbent is required to act as the shift leader and give general direction to casual staff in the absence of both the Pool Supervisor and Assistant Pool Supervisor.

The incumbent must possess a Grade 12 diploma, a current Class 5 Driver’s License, and have at least one year of experience in the role of lifeguard and/or instructor. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work shift work is required.   The incumbent must possess current certification in the following:

Lifesaving instructor
National Lifeguard Service
Current First Aid Award/ CPR Basic Rescue

The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive salary range of $59,610.50 – $69,915.30 as well as a comprehensive benefits package including a monthly housing allowance, a defined benefits pension plan and relocation assistance.
