The New Westminster Public Library is currently seeking applicants for Auxiliary Librarians. Auxiliary Librarians work on an on-call and as-needed basis, and may cover vacations, illnesses, and other shifts. The successful candidates will provide customer service, conduct programs, manage sections of the collection, and work on special projects. Duties include Reader’s advisory and collection assistance as well as reference and research assistance for adults and children. Applicants with interest or expertise in providing services to children may also undertake storytime, outreach programs and class visits.
Requirements include:
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited University;
Minimum of one year’s experience working in a public library setting, preferably on a public service desk;
Knowledge of the Horizon Library System and Bibliocommons;
Ability to conduct library tours and programs;
Ability in collection development, including weeding, acquisitions, and researching and developing new collection areas;
Considerable knowledge in preparing resource lists, referral lists, technology help sheets, patron handouts, and similar materials in electronic formats;
Ability to assist library users with internet, ebooks, and other computer applications, including teaching one-on-one technology tutorials.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is desirable.
