Duties: The primary assignment of the successful candidate will be to instruct students, facilitate learning, evaluate student progress in both classroom and shop settings; plan, organize and manage learning activities, and to provide academic advice to learners. The incumbent will train students in the safe use of hand tools and shop equipment for construction techniques and installation of electric heating systems and controls, fire alarms, raceways, wireways, busways and lighting. Instruction will also focus on specifics of series and parallel circuits, AC and DC theory, fundamentals of electricity, single & three phase systems, as well as direct instruction in areas of protection devices, motors, controls, generation, schematics, PLC’s, HVAC systems, digital electronics, DCS (Distributed Control System), as well as pneumatic and hydraulic systems. The incumbent will also perform other related duties consistent with maintaining quality learner-centered instruction.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must possess knowledge and experience in the electrical trade, with a concentration in construction and/or industrial maintenance supplemented with knowledge of current teaching/learning methods, and classroom management. Well-developed communication, analytical, conflict resolution, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a teaching environment are essential. Candidates must have a strong commitment to student success strategies and initiatives. The required knowledge and skills would normally have been acquired through the completion of Interprovincial Journeyperson Construction Industrial Electrical Certification combined with recent trade specific industry experience.
A Pre-employment Certificate and Bachelor of Education (Secondary/Post-Secondary) and teacher training and experience teaching at a post-secondary level would be considered an asset.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the College of the North Atlantic Faculty Collective Agreement.
