Position:
Part-time, Contract, Gardening Teacher (SK and Elementary)
Requirements:
Enthusiasm for growing food in urban areas as well as homestead.
Love children and working with them.
Basic knowledge of organic edible gardening.
Teaching experience is preferred.
Teaching degree or enrollment in equivalent program is preferred.
Ability to commute to and between schools in the City of Toronto, Vaughn and Markham is a must.
Description:
This is an opportunity to work with a green business, make a positive impact in the lives of future generation as well as getting trained and gaining experience as a gardening teacher.
This is a part-time position which starts with only up to 10 hours/week, mostly between the hours of 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, with possibility of increase of hours. We are very flexible when assigning class times at the beginning of every program. But commitment is expected from you after program schedule is confirmed with the schools and you have agreed to the assignment.
Programs run in different schools throughout City of Toronto, Vaughn and Markham. Every program runs for 10 weeks in fall and 10 weeks in spring. Teachers will be fully trained on specific previously prepared curricula by working as a teacher assistant for 10 probation weeks. Materials will be provided by Kids’ Growing City.
Compensation will be $15/hour for 10 weeks of probation period. Upon successfully completing the probation period (approved by the director) classes will be assigned to you to run independently and compensation will then increase to $30/hour. Payment is made only for hours spent in classroom and not for commute or preparation.
Gardening classes will run during spring and fall. No classes in winter.
This job posting is not for Summer Camp. Possibility of extending the position to summer camp exists. But schedule and compensation will vary and should be discussed at that time.
