Overview
The Explorer Lab Educator will assist with developing and delivering marine natural history interpretive and educational programs for the Discovery Passage Aquarium and Explorer Lab. This will include hosting birthday parties, summer camps, and other programs for the general public. The Educator will engage with program participants and visitors, conduct demonstrations and deliver specialized programming. This will also involve program promotion. Explorer Lab Educators are responsible for providing fun and unique hands-on educational experiences for participants of our educational programming. We are seeking team players, with a passion for marine biology and a commitment to providing an exceptional guest experience.
Post-secondary education in a field of biological sciences, marine biology, education, tourism or related field is preferred. Relevant high school level coursework also an asset
Level 1 First Aid with CPR-C is an asset
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Experience and competence in computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email
Experience developing and/or delivering educational programs to youth of all ages an asset
Knowledge of local marine biodiversity, species, life history, and habitats.
Familiarity with social media promotional opportunities, including web blogs
Strong language skills in English are required. A second language is an asset
Terms and Conditions
Hours (per week): 35-40
Term: Full time from late June to early September 2023
Schedule will include weekends and some evenings
Pay: $17.00 per hour, plus vacation pay.
The Discovery Passage Aquarium is in Campbell River, BC
